The AFDIAG certification
Did you notice? Our Naten products are certified gluten-free by AFDIAG! Yes, that's what the "crossed-out wheat ear" logo means that we put on our packaging...
If this means nothing to you, don't panic! This is precisely the opportunity to give you a little background on the subject. First of all, what do the letters in this acronym mean? (Yes, it's not just for show.)
AFDIAG is simply the French Association of Gluten Intolerant People! Still doesn't ring a bell? Let's continue! The association was founded in 1989 by a few volunteers and now brings together approximately 5000 member families affected by gluten intolerance (also called celiac disease). AFDIAG has three main missions:
- Inform people with gluten intolerance and non-celiac gluten hypersensitivity, the public, and healthcare and food professionals.
- To defend the interests of people with gluten-related conditions with government agencies and food industry professionals.
– Supporting medical research Of course, the association works closely with healthcare professionals, government agencies, food industry manufacturers and distributors, as well as restaurant professionals, so that everyone can live well without gluten every day. It's serious! Finally, AFDIAG has undertaken several important actions in support of celiac patients, a few examples of which are:
- partial reimbursement of gluten-free products by the National Health Insurance
- Integration of the gluten-free diet for affected children in school settings - Implementation of regulations for food labeling
What else is hidden behind the gluten-free logo?
To be allowed to put the gluten-free logo on our products, we must of course be members of AFDIAG, but also and above all prove that our products are indeed gluten-free.
- below the tolerated threshold for gluten-free products. We are regularly audited by a certification body for this purpose, and we also conduct internal tests on our products to ensure consistent quality. Since our factory is 100% dedicated to gluten-free products, there is very little risk of contamination, but you can never be too careful! 😉 That's it, you know the essentials about AFDIAG!
